The Inevitable

The Inevitable

A Poem by Tiana

The Inevitable

As much as we loved each other
deep within our hearts we knew
it wouldn't last forever
we held on as long as we could
hoping and wishing that maybe someday
things would work out in our favor
but our someday never came
and we both knew we were
prolonging the inevitable

Yet, neither one of us wanted
to be the first to sever the tie
that bridged the distance
between your heart and mine
despite all the tears we've shed
and all those lonely nights
we lay awake in our beds
so torn apart inside
prolonging the inevitable

We've used up all our chances
running around in circles
trying to mend broken fences
while praying for a miracle
 and realized that it's over
as we severed the tie
that bound us together
with pain and sadness
we accepted the inevitable

this reminds me of when my first ex-wife and i split...we suffered mostly the sadness of losing the friendship---many tears on both sides over that...but it just wouldn't work any longer as a married couple...
eventually we just couldn't be around each other at all.
sad poem with much truth.

This is so hard when you don't want to let go but you have to. Nicely written!
