Romantic Love

I know romantic love is a half-assed story
I've been there enough times to know how it will most likely end
I show you my best side and you show me yours
I put my worse side out there but you refuse to see it
You flaunt yours just as well but I choose to ignore it
Not because we're dumb, but because we're human.

I know you've walked many of the same paths I've walked in life
I enjoy listening to your perceptions of the world
Because I know where you've been as well as where you're going
You have an enlightened state of Being that few achieve
Looking at you from that perspective, I know you'd be easy to love
In fact, I do love that part of you.

Where we've been, though, is exactly what makes us improbable
Cynicism, distrust, self protection, and wariness rule us
Or at least they're kept up in the front our minds at all times
People like us love but we choose to love from afar
This is a unique love, a real love, an unconditional love
I would never think of wasting it away for a chance at romantic love.

I am normally NOT a fan of love poems but my friend you write them so beautifully. You don't make them stale and over done as most do. Its written with a truth or many truths and I love that about it. Go figure I've fallen in love with a poem about love.
