Artistic Strike

A Poem by J Todd Underhill

Defcon 1

My eyes pop open,

Fulfill my daily duty.

Confession unto my microphone.

Edited away in the click of a mouse.

Partaking Sacrament

There is no absolution.

Defcon 2

Hit the clock at work,

Do my best for two hour intervals.

Push hard and make the green,

Boss makes a Dollar

I make a Dime.

Defecation while on company time.

Defcon 3

Drive across town.

The workday worm tiresome.

Peace found in Amplitude Modulation.

Legends infect my synopses through my ears.

My brain sedated

As the manic rush hour unfolds

Defcon 4

Dinner hour has passed,

Set my commitment for the following day

Passions embraced for good or bad.

Pursuing dreams lingering from teenage years.

I am no sell out.

I own all that it is that I am.

Defcon 5

The night is mine

Brew a strong pot of Java

Smoke a Newport Red One Hundred

Auditory stimuli set to cajole my muse

Pen and pad close at hand.

Let's F*****g Create!

Thanks for sharing. It took two reads for my self- admission that I didn't understand the half of it. The half denied confession was just as enjoyable though. My left half is entirely occupied by right-handed manual (near) dexterity, so freeing the lesser partner, the right hemisphere, to puzzle poetry.
Thanks for sharing.
