Semi-related Stanzas Evoked By J. D. Slammer

A Poem by J Todd Underhill
"

Something New Atlast

"

The disparate tympanic tappings of the spirits long since gone,
Keep me company from dusk until the dawn.
Filling my mind with memories long since passed,
As my moments here seem to be closing so fast.

My millstones are labeled Guilt and Shame,
Other's actions for which I take the blame.
Drowning in the ocean of tears as I openly grieve,
After years of crying I find it hard to breathe.

Scuffing my boots as I trudge my personal path,
Enjoying the moments when I can smile and laugh.
Owning my title and living my chosen role,
No matter the cost; No matter the toll.

And though it seems the fates doth conspire;
My heart still burns with my passionate fire.
What most would call just useless energy spent;
Is proof that this poet just will not relent.

Unwilling to disparage other poets work and words,
Audio Nirvana now reduced to two thirds.
And I walk my path, head high and undaunted,
However by my own memories I am now haunted

Author's Note

J Todd Underhill
J. D. Slammer is a guitarist I worked with in my teens and early twenties... quite a good poet and philosophizer as well.
