So Shall I Kiss the Queen?

So Shall I Kiss the Queen?

A Poem by J.A.Bentley
"

The start of any voyage into marriage

"

I stand here now,

looking over the seas

with the sun starting to warmly drape

its figure across our bow.

I look at you

as we stand here

on this ship newly built and painted

on the ocean blue

Shall I kiss these lips?

I know what will come

the fights, the tears, and the pain

but it is worth it.

I face the fact

that on this journey

we will both know little to nothing

though we won't turn back

I stand quivering

for the love of me

resides thoroughly throughout your eyes

causing my heart to sing

Your hair teases

your cheek

as I smile, laughing at my fragility

standing in this breeze

I sing the cadence

of my younger years

to my melody and harmony

breaking our silence

So shall I kiss the Queen?
