Epiphany

Epiphany

A Poem by J Carly

Stretching beyond my means to compensate

For the flaws in my ‘Master Plan’

Stringing together loopholes and fantasies

Like Christmas garlands of popcorn and cranberries

To adorn the branches of my thoughts

Lining up the options and realities

Like stepping stones across a river of change

Flowing deeper than mortal eyes can see

One misstep, one slip into oblivion, and yet...

Pulled forward by intuition and a feeling of desperation

Dreaming of the persistence of my forgotten memories

Promises never meant to be broken

Straining under the power of this force

Driving me through the stormy seas of self-doubt

Feelings of inadequacy give way

To the realization of my capability

An epiphany of spirit

Revealing the truth in the lies.

Concrit is welcome, as always. However, I probably will not change a word, regardless. This one just flowed out of me without the usual hesitation, and I tend to listen when the spirit of my muse speaks to me as such.

this made me smile :)
this is one of those poems i missed while i was gone from the cafe for however long it was...

such a good write.... only one word can describe this... "Poetry"
a word that is so undefinable..., yet you have captured it perfectly :)

ive been reading a bunch of super old poems in school, from poets like john donne and sir walter raleigh, a couple shakespeare sonnets in there too... and as good as those super old school poets are
its refreshing to read your work, to read something so modern and pure

something that just flowed out of a human as she listened to her muse, something that didn't take years old perfectionism to craft

this is the poetry i fell in love with, and this poem reminds me why i fell in love with it :)

........

ok, now finally time for what lead me to love this poem so much :)
----firstly, i can see the spontaneity in it, and i love that so much, its not overflowing with "perfection" if there is such a thing (don't take that the wrong way, to mean that its flawed, cause its not, it is perfect, but you know what i mean)
----"stringing together loopholes and fantasies/ like garlands of popcorn and cranberries/ to adorn the branches of my thought" just LOVE those lines sooo much
----this poem perfectly captures a writer's mindset as they are writing... or at least my mindset when i am writing, i dont know about other's, haha
----this is the best poem i have read about writing, ever, hands down
----its just sooo... precise and sensitive and spontaneous and just... this is poetry :)
----ummmmm yeah... super good, i dont care what other people think i think this is amazing and ummm yeah

and im pretty sure this is the longest review i have ever written before... as of right now im gonna get 10 points for it, hahahaha

so im gonna end it now and get my 10 points and i hope you enjoyed reading this review

You completely captured the intensity of an epiphany. I felt every line and thought, "Agreed!" to everything :) Follow your muse! It leads you to these fabulous truths.

Powerful and elegant. It totally captures the abruptness and mystery of an epiphany. You have a really nice way of weaving words together to make them sound good and insightful.

Keep Writing. ^___^

well well I should start spending a little more time on this site...how I missed this one is beyond me my friend so i only hope you will forgive me. You know me I've always been a fan of writes that simply flow from you without having to think (which probably why I haven't written a word for almost 6 mths now) and you have proven that can happen with this amazing poem.

"To adorn the branches of my thoughts
Lining up the options and realities
Like stepping stones across a river of change
Flowing deeper than mortal eyes can see..." I just adore these lines. I think its the stepping stones and mortal eyes that have attracted me to them though...still I might be wrong as I'm not as I once was when it comes to reviewing poetry...my insight has all but died...so I am sorry if this review is lame.

Still...amazing as always my friend.

There ya go! Enjoyable close observation of creative process, the courage to continue, and the organic drama. Similar to the perennial "hi-wire" trope that more than one poetic mind has noted.

And the spontaneous consistency is noteworthy, redolent of Zen's "First thought, best thought" (of course, as in improv theater, a lot of pre-rigor goes into that capacity). Whether one writes w/swift focused "brush strokes" or chips away at an "uncut diamond," the innate quality of surprise generates what the French call "jouissance," or the bliss of making expressive connections. The more one is a guerrilla scholar of process, the more prized said jouissance is, coming increasingly from a greater depth of intuition.

Interesting to contrast the bliss-flavors of jouissance and epiphany. As I began to extrapolate, I felt the words themselves emanate subtle qualities beyond the literal differences of pleasure in process, and cloud-clearing insight. Words are ALIVE.

Your subject and execution has a classic quality. Fine work.

Eyes open and face first into the abyss. A good piece for stepping into the future. Kudos.

So beautifully expressed and profound, your words lift the spirit! Filled with vibrant imagery, I just love the way you bring about hope from the stormy seas of self doubt.. There is something more.. something deeper than the pain. Amazing write!
