Thousand Miles

Thousand Miles

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

Hey, babe
It's late I know
You're probably asleep
I'm up thinking of you
At your picture show

It's hard being so far
Mile after mile
I'm dying to make that drive
Just to see you smile
After those thousand miles

These thousand miles
So far, so wide
How can we be so close?
With this dose?
With this love?

I want to see your smiles
When we finally meet
After these thousand miles
Are all behind us

Take these thousand miles
Just take them away
Toss them out
Burn them down
Lead them astray

I can't stop thinking of you
It's a dreaded curse
Of these miles between us
I'll take most, just take a few

These thousand miles
So far, so wide
How can we be so close?
With this dose?
With this love?

I want to see your smiles
When we finally meet
After these thousand miles
Are all behind us

I'll fill this truck up
And drive to you
Meet me at your door

Take these thousand miles
Just take them away
Toss them out
Burn them down
Lead them astray

These thousand miles
So far, so wide
How can we be so close?
With this dose?
With this love?

I want to see your smiles
When we finally meet
After these thousand miles
Are all behind us

A amazing poem. I feel the song in the words. I miss traveling. The long highway. Always something new to be seen. Thank you my friend for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Hmm...I'm trying to decide if you have a pattern going with your phrase "these thousand miles". You know like every two stanzas or every third. But in the end you use it twice in a row. I think if you made a sort of pattern that would convey more of the essence of the poem. Distance without really saying it often, just bringing it back as a reminder. But then again I'm rusty at read/review works. I love the poem J, I really do. It was just a suggestion. I look forward to seeing more of your creative works :)
