Blood-Curdling To See!

Blood-Curdling To See!

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

My Most Scary Halloween!

"

An orange moon, a pitch black sky

a child of only four was I,

and as the bad witch of the west

for trick-or-treating I was dressed.

A gruesome mask, a pointed hat

a flowing robe, a screeching cat,

I was ready and excited.

Halloween, I was delighted!

My Dad and I walked down the street

and, happy, I saw friends to greet.

Nothing rattling, nothing macabre,

kids in creepy get-ups I saw.

On a corner ghosts were eating,

on slimy worms they were feasting.

With drooling mouths they laughed out loud

and of their antics they were proud.

Suddenly, so horrifying!

I felt abandoned, I was crying.

Standing nearby, dressed just like me,

a wicked witch, blood-curdling to see!

LOL I lived the way this poem reminiscences and paints a picture of the neighborhood kids out having fun. It still rings true to the Halloween spirit by showing how a child can still get scared even in all the happy frivolity.

This is such a great and innocent poem, bringing a flush of warmth, mystery and childhood fantasy along with it. Marvelous job!

Thank you, Gleb. What a wonderful review! I really appreciate your thoughts.
You had me laughing, Joyce! All the while you had me wondering what the "blood-curdling sight" might be. And oh, excellent lines and good narrative! Also, you effectly portrayed a child's innocence, or whatever. :D
Happy halloween! :)

That is so funny, Joyce! Poor little you! I wonder what you would have done seeing yourself in a mirror that night. I remember being scared to death of a boy dressed as an alien. I couldn't sleep with my curtains cracked at all. The night sky was not allowed to peek into my room. Angi~

Yes, lovely poem, Who knows who is a real witch in disguise? Personally I have a soft spot for witches. I don't think they brought on their condition themselves. I think it was thrust upon them by the wicked world!

Thanks, Latifa, I appreciate your review very much.
Such an adorable write!

I could picture how happy and excited you were to be dressed up -- until you saw that scary witch. Don't worry, I would have bawled my eyes out too.

It's funny that things from our childhood can still creep us out. Great write, as always. :D
