My Family's Home

My Family's Home

A Poem by Joyce S. Greene
"

A Song to be Sung to the Tune of "My Favorite Things"

"

Santa is sleighing and reindeer are winging
Candles are glowing and carolers singing
Laughter and joy in glad greetings we hear
Christmas brings people together each year.

Fresh cookies baking and eggnog for nipping
Church bells and kids' yells and boxes for shipping
Moonlight and mistletoe calling us near
Christmas brings people together each year.

Tinsel is shining and white lights are winking
Children are giggling and eyelids are blinking
Presents are waiting for friends who are dear
Christmas brings people together each year.

When the clerks scowl
When the wind howls
When crowds push and shove
I simply remember my family's home
And then my heart glows with love!

This is a very elegant piece of Christmas cheer and families we hold dear. The expressions shared a vivid picture of a Christmas well spent. A few things that stood out to me

When the clerks scowl
When the wind howls
When crowds push and shove
I simply remember my family's home
And then my heart glows with love!
(This particular verse didn't quite seem to fit in)

Church bells and kids' yells and boxes for shipping
(this phrase didn't seem to flow like the rest of the piece)

However that being said I loved this vivid piece of holiday spirit. Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work. Please return the favor by reviewing one of my pieces.

Thanks, Jeannear.
A very heartwarming, snug poem. I can imagine this being read on some classic Christmas clay animation on a Christmas Eve. Wonderfully penned!

A few suggestions:
I think that 'eyelids are blinking' would be better as 'Christmas lights blinking.'
Just a suggestion

Everything else was superb!

Sure. How about "Bright stars blinking."
I've been a bit of a grouch this holiday season, but this did bring a smile to my heart Joyce, why can't it be so all year long? Well done! Have a great New Year.....

I love the Sound of Music and couldn't wait to sing this out aloud, haha. You paced the words and phrases perfectly and it fits so well! I thought this was a wonderful poem and you made it your own.

Hope you're having a glorious Christmas with your family!
