Fallen Sisters

Fallen Sisters

A Poem by JLily98
"

In memory of 9/11

"

It was a beautiful day for

a Tuesday in the month of September.

It was early enough in the month for summer

attire, though you still saw people wearing

their business suits while on their way to

work.

New York City, one of the best known cities

in the United States and one of my many

favorite places to be. It was early enough

in the morning to smell the cups of coffee

in someone’s hand as you walk by them,

you heard the sounds of cars drive by honking,

and people talking on the phone saying words they

thought they’d never say before.

New York, still one of the best known

places in the world especially after that horrific

scene.

Over the years, different days, same date, I’d watch

documentaries and as I grew older,

it was then I had a better understanding

of knowing the two fallen sisters left us that day

along with many other souls that were once living on the streets I continue

to walk on...

yes I remember the day very clearly... i was in 8th grade and they had suspended the academic work for that day so that we may watch the news coverage... I saw the second -sister- get struck.. I have also heard them being referred to as -tommy towers-.. once i realized what you were speaking of i felt alerted.. thank you for your writing!

The imagery still lays ever-clear in front of the mind's eye of how such a normal day for some can be a tragedy for others, and how the way of existence with or without our consent pushes some forward into life and reflection and others into blind doom. Beautiful poem

We'll always remember where we were that day. They are gone but the city still lives, though it will never forget.

Clear skies painted blue with silence. Birds stopped dead in flight, the eerie stillness of sorrow knowing death was near. Oh, but what a glorious morning that Tuesday was, before the strike of 8:40 am... born and raised a New Yorker, I will forever remember that time. Beautiful, Jennifer!
