Because This is What I See

Because This is What I See

A Poem by Phoenix

The way that you hide in front of everyone's eyes
Your smile and your loud, confident lies.
The way that you stride, like nothing is wrong
Your presence is striking, intimidating, and strong.

Your surface is everything appealing
But conceals you, and every feeling.
Your shell covers pain, and protects you
But keeps what's beautiful from shining through.

It was not for me to approach, heal, or embrace
I fought and loved, and watched it waste.
It was through your eyes, your eyes could I see...
That beauty kept, and hidden from me.

Phoenix
Inspired by four years worth of events, and by the few days it took to reconcile them, for me at least.

hmmmmmmmmmm. Have I ever commented on how much I feel like a muse when i read your poetry? And how immensely strange it is?

I like the second stanza the best- sometimes I feel like whoever you're writing about, living with this need to hide who I really am inside, realizing that some people tend to prefer my facade.

Very well written.

I have so many ideas and feelings, and they usually buzz around inside me wildly. When I can gather up enough of them, then a piece of writing emerges and I feel refreshed. more..
