Perfect Date

Perfect Date

A Poem by James
"

I only share grits with very special people.

"
They sat together
at a table for two.
Their first time alone
no need for a menu.
He stared into her eyes
a deep hazel-brown
until her face began to blush
and her eyes moved down.
Then she looked up
for the first time she knew
as she stared into his eyes
of deep ocean blue,
That this was the man,
she was meant to spend
this night in his arms
and her soul would mend.
They held an embrace
and in his arms, she fit
then they sat side-by-side
sharing a bowl of grits.

This is fun & flirty & I like the way it seems to build up to an anti-climax crescendo. As we read along, we're waiting for this amazing revelation as to why this shared meal has captured this narrator's heart with such a swoop of intensity . . . and then we find out it's grits. Whatever floats your boat, my friend! *tee! hee!* I'm in the mood for something playful & silly like this, after all the intensity we're going thru on the political front (((HUGS)))

James,
Well, I was wondering how this one would end.....hmmm. I guess with the detail that was provided we readers will imagine out own outcomes and scenarios. I enjoyed the descriptions given and the cute and fun too.

Great ending. It was mushy and sweet, and then there's the surprise ending of grits. If I keep reading your poems, I'm eventually going to have to try those darn things just so I know what you're talking about.
