Deafening SilenceA Poem by James McFadyen
Silence. such a confused word
For even in mention, your name is heard Like nothingness. How can I see or hear or feel nothing when there is an aboutness To oblivion? Yet silence, to absence of sound I feel inextricably bound To you, engulfed by you. it is comforting to at last rise above the tempest Of heated thought, of sweltering emotions Which stifle me so. Above the tremors of the world I soar towards your open arms Embraced, caressed by such tranquillity A gentle breeze which cools my skin On such a hot, tempered day. It is here, I hear your silence. A deafening quietness where All pain, all sadness, all hope and joy Is lost to the gentle wind. It is peaceful with you. Yet I cannot stay Or stray too far away For I have duties to fulfil. The horizon stretches far ahead, Above the living, below the dead I must tread the path from which I had hitherto diverged. Do not fret my dear. Though I may leave your embrace And fall back towards the earth Clamorous and raucous Know soon I will find you Once again. © 2012 James McFadyenAuthor's Note
