Wings

Wings

A Chapter by My Fair Lady

How can a mother teach a son

Something she cannot be

The way of a man

How can you become more

Appreciative of the world

Of Yourself

Of life…

Of women

How can I teach you my son

To love yourself enough

So that you can give your heart

To one that will give you life

The time for you to

Find your own path

Is upon us both

Have you found the wings I gave to you?

Are you ready to fly?

Feel the sun

But don’t get burned my love

Feel joy

But don’t get selfish

Feel Love

But give it in return

Work for what you want

But play hard too

I hope you

Stand for what you believe in

Fight for truth and justice

Lead with an open mind

Listen… really listen

Take nothing for granted boy

Your life is only beginning

Don’t be controlled by worldly things

Like money, sex or substance

Find yourself in nature

Love literature, and education

Learn always

Are you ready to fly?

Speak with care

Measure your steps

Your destination is great

The way of a man

I just loved this...wonderful advice from a mother to a son. I was reminded of one of my favorite poems (If) by Rudyard Kipling...I have it framed with a picture of my own mother because I think it is the same advice that she gave me in becoming a man. My father was a rough and ready character but he was also intelligent and fun loving. His father was stern, sour and abusive...a man who inforced his will by the "spare the rod and spoil the child" rule of thumb. I don't think his father EVER played at anything. But dad would make us toys, play ball and tag, fly kites with us...etc. Looking back I see how he strived so hard to be a better parent than his own dad. Of course...I'm the best dad in the world! lol My daughter says so anyway. lol Great piece, thoroughly enjoyed.

I think this is a very touching right, A life as a single mother is one with many ups and downs. How does she teach the value to be a man to her son and still show him the gentleness only a mother can. It's a hard road.

With Love,

Jaidyn

this is so insightful
a mother can only love and accept
her children are her extensions but not her copies
no matter the gender
