Winter blues

Winter blues

A Poem by Jas

I enjoy the world when it's green
For now it's white ; Lacking color and substance
So I'll paint my nails , to help add color to my world
In my head I'll plant new ideas; That will shape the emptiness
It's not the same as the fire like sunset,
Or the summer blue sky
Or the emerald green trees
But my colored paint and wild thoughts will do till spring.

'Winter Blues'
Jas,
I can identify with your enjoyment of the longer summer days and all the light of spring and summer. Where I live we do not have long stretches of snowy days but we get about a week or so every winter and it is so lovely. The winter days are short and it just seems like browns and greys rule outside but getting outside and being active really helps to drive away the blues as does just being busy and doing good things which need doing. I love that you are writing. It is a good way to process life.
I wish you good things in your life and writing.

"But my colored paint and wild thoughts will do till spring"

Your conclusion to this piece was great. A short and sweet poem that made it's point quickly and effectively. I really relate to your conclusion. Up here in Canada we've got long, dull winters and I often find myself escaping to fantastic places in my head.

If I could humbly offer a suggestion, it would be to give us more of your coloured paint and wild thoughts in the poem. You do offer a glimpse into the colours, not sure about the wild thoughts though. I believe they are there, but I would love to see them expressed in your poetry!

"In my head I'll plant new ideas; That will shape the emptiness "

This was my favorite line of the piece. Planting new ideas and watching them grow. In my experience it does feel like watching vines grow, rapidly and all over the place. Sometimes those thoughts do feel out of control. And shaping the emptiness . . . take away all those erratic and overgrown thoughts and I do feel like my head would be empty sometimes. Thank god for those seeds we plant!

A good piece of poetry, I liked it:)

I love this! I get a sort of "winter depression" so this really holds some truth for me,with such a positive outlook on things. Beautifully written. :)
