Faded Heartsong

Faded Heartsong

A Poem by Robert Luna
"

Collaboration between myself and Emily Burns. It is always a pleasure to write with her. We hope you enjoy it.

"

There's been a ghost wearing my shoes
I can still feel it's cold residue
linger on a spot of my heart
I wrote out the words upon water
As the wind carried them away

The words came upon the water
the wind carried them to me
Words of life and love
heartsongs and death rattles
and I sat long tracing the ripples

It is her my heart wishes to sing too
but dawn approaches chasing shadows
Words remain but whispers upon my lips
The longing to breathe the life of her
makes this fading of myself unbearable

Every day I am less
than I was the day before.
Every dawn my spirit fades
but I have heartsongs left to sing
and words left to whisper

There at the waters edge
My words turn to translucent blue
Morning arises to find sorrow
Shadows fall to the darkness
I am a slumbering giant once more

I lie among the morning dew
Mourning the loss of shadows
Blowing dandelions
Making wishes upon puffs of their fluff
for the return of night

I liked the writing on water, ripples through... I can see that in my mind. Your pond painted a picture, painful but true for those who have lost someone they know it is even better than the ones who have lost not one person at all. But we all come to that stage in our minds when we do lose someone. A faded past, trying so hard to remember, to hear a laugh or see a smile... or just hoping to see the ripples come back with a message saying, "I'm doing great!" I loved your poem, as well as all your others. You have mastered the art of poetry.

I see here the allegory on human mind. Dreams, insecurities and wishes. Herr Freud would like it. The image is scary, but you like such illustration, I know you Robert. Well done, it was a joy to read this!! Riveting.

I like it. There is a seamless feel to it and if I did not know it was a collab before I started reading I doubt I wld have guessed it. Well done. Love the title and there is an ethereal feel to the poem, an otherness.

Nice work from both of you; the mermaids in the water may be muses of the deep.

I love doing coolaborations and when i saw you two talented people hooked up I had to come read and was not disappointed... what a beautifully melodic duet of words you two created, very spiritual and loving.

It is indeed a pleasure. I doubted myself when you approached me with the invitation. I didn't think I would find the words I needed. I should have known that they would flow from that place where all living words live. Don't stay away so long next time. It is good to share inspiration when we have it.
