Find the True You

Find the True You

A Poem by Jeff Miller
"

This was given to me as a "personal poem" assignment in my english class. His comments were beautiful and thoughtful and I got 100% on it. However, it kinda swerves off and straightens out at the end

"

Sometimes you need to explore the depths of your soul
You question whether it’s warm or cold
But truly your life and thoughts have a story to be told
Who you are and your actions is what you’ll have to think about while you grow old

Who do you want to be? Since we can all pretend
But our true character seems to create the trend
We have a variety of faces
But our experiences create our revelations

One of the most influential emotions is love
When her beauty is more perfect than the flawless white dove
The warmth of your hands intertwined
And when you tell her you love her more than the world is wide

You tell her she’s your rainbow and at the end of everyday you find a brand new pot of gold
But the gold is all her qualities and you learn more and more as your relationship unfolds
However being able to appreciate others helps you learn to appreciate yourself
And not put your priorities behind theirs on a shelf

So then, what is love?
Anger, joy, jealousy, and hope? Love is all the above.
Love is feeling every imagined and felt emotion for someone and still always wanting them next to you
When you don’t need to lie and everything you say is true

So to the question who?
The answer is you
Don’t hide who you are
Ignore the past and all your scars
Rise above
Only to the people who deserve it, give your love
Because all your qualities and heart is a magic trove

Your life is a puzzle and it’s almost complete
All that’s left is finding out who has the matching piece
You have a plethora of moods
But they all coexist and mingle to create the true and real YOU.

What an inspiring piece with a little twist and turns here and there. I love how you were talking about yourself and then about love and then back to yourself. The transitions flow smoothly though the thoughts really did swerve. Yours is a meaningful poem.

Keep Writing. ^___^
