Platinum Skies

My mood is as flat as the platinum skies

Of this overcast March day.

But it’s merely flat, not sad.

Only momentarily uninspired.

 

I laugh at myself;

What colors did I expect, chartreuse and fuchsia?

It’s restful, meditative.

 

Already traces of green dot the brown grass

Outside my window

And tiny, fragile buds on the trees

Hint at the spring soon to come

And so I’m hopeful and expectant.

Glad you enjoyed it. Long time no see, and I always enjoy your unique perspective on my writing. You can and do imagine meanings I hadn't intended, but that's fascinating. At least I came up with a word you weren't familiar with, although colors may be more of a feminine thing...

Bah, people are always telling me how many more colours women can see than men, but I can barely see at all! :D What can I say, unless I am trying to write a poem or something, I usually only need those extreme basics. After all, colour is one of those things which varies greatly with perspective, so precise choice of colour descriptions is often wasted. However, culture also greatly influences things like this. I'll mention it since it is relevant, and may be of interest. Before the introduction of Europeans, Japanese used the same color to describe both blue AND green; so older compound words such as 'green-grass' would be written as 'blue-grass'. or someone who is 'green' at something (a newbie) may be referred to as being 'blue'. Yet despite only using a single word for such a vast part of the spectrum, they had at least 6 base colors which fall in the spectrum of red; likely because it was a color of royal and high-class items?

This is so very much the feeling that I have as spring begins to slowly creep in. How odd, that although Platinum is one of the most valuable metals, it is simultaneously rather bland; I suppose that sometimes the things which seem uneventful can hold their own unique and significant value? I was not familiar with chartreuse, so thank you for helping me expand my vocabulary. Good write, I enjoyed it, and poetry is hardly my forte.
