Investments

Investments

A Poem by Jennesis
"

Just a little pep talk to myself.

"

Depression has its grip

Deadly talons rip

His happiness away

He has given up today

And every day

For months…..

Helpless and dying inside

He cannot hide

He no longer has a place

Defeat on his face

My anger turns to rage

He chooses this cage

Life preservers rejected

There’s nothing to be respected

I’m walking away

It’s sad, but hey

Too much energy spent

No return on the investment

I can’t be his sun

Today I am done.

This one cracks the facade of uncaring and unthinking service as a nurse or therapist... it really does HURT to care - to listen, share, invest focus and yes - heart. And there are physical and mental limits if only for survival...

and you get left to your own midnight's stares into the "nothing" and the softly welling and falling tears...

Thanks Chris~ It's true, sometimes we put so much into the healing we get drained.

"No return on the investment".

When the anger turns to rage, I think some of the self respect for ourselves starts returning. The rhyming gave this a good fit and a powerful punch, with a climatic end!

So good to see you, Jenn!

Dear Jenn,
I think your "pep talk" is an apt one for most of us to learn from, and this is what I so very much enjoy about your poetry (aside from how beautifully you write, of course), that you have something of genuine, intrinsic value and import to share.
The rich treasure I've gleaned from this piece is: Despite how brightly one shines (tries their utmost best), if the other does not/cannot reciprocate, the care and feelings one invests will yield an insufficient return, and there will eventually come a time to cease pouring one's most valuable assets into a bottomless pit … or, some-such.
I can just hear you giggling at my interpretation, but you know I tried. : )
As I do all of your poems, I truly enjoyed this suite of Rhyming Couplets … wonderfully done, our dear lady-poet!
Thank you ever-so much, Jenn! ⁓ Richard

It is hard to walk away from a loved one... but when they continually weigh you down yu have no choice unless you want to drown. Nice rhyming.

Sometimes it's hard when we don't get back at least some of what we put in. And you can only ask someone to cheer up so mnat times before you need some cheering up yourself. Really good Jennesis.

So true a Hare, it's too much sometimes. Thanks so much~
there is always investment in a relationship, and there just has to be a return sooner or later, or we just will end up bankrupt in our heart and have no more feelings to give.
