Selling myself

Selling myself

A Poem by Jennifer Elizabeth

I know what I don’t want to be
I’m not afraid to die alone
I won’t forget my way back home
And everything I love is free

I find pleasure in the simplest things
Like dancing in a flowing skirt
And kneeling down into the dirt
To tease a stray cat with a string

I smile even when I cry
And won’t forget a lesson learned
I do not mind when I get burned
It reminds me that I am alive

I’m carefree and easy going
In love with love and imperfection
A sucker for some good attention
And my confidence is growing

So if you’re looking for the kind
Of girl who knows just where she stands
Simply come and take my hand
I'll gladly share my peace of mind

'Stairway To Heaven' booming out on the radio as I read your poem, which I found a very visual read, a bit like watching a video accompanyment to a famous bit of music. '...everything I love is free' is a lovely thought and full of truth. The second verse is delightful. OK I know you are not going to stick your hands on hot-plates, but the notion of drawing something positive from a mishap, or pain is a good way to be, especially as the world is an imperfect place. I am sure there will be no shortage of buyers for such sheer love of life.

This was a great poem Jennifer. I really like the way you express yourself too.
We all feel this way from time to time and I loved the way you ended this by inviting us all to come along.

Thanks for sharing.

Very nicely penned. It is so great to see young ladies who know themselves so well and have peace of mind. I can almost see this put to music. Great job!

This poem is nice. I liked the second stanza best. Its good to be carefree, you know? Life is too short for any other arrangement.
