Mister Righteous

Mister Righteous

A Poem by Jesse Booker

Mister Righteous, sell me a prayer

For my life is a troubled affair

I need your guidance to help me through

I’ll buy your wisdom and give your due

Mister Righteous, please tell me again

How I’m depraved and living in sin

I’m in great need of your sound advice

To save me from the devil’s device

What can I do to save my own soul?

More money in the collection bowl?

If I wear your smile upon my face

Can I come in to your meeting place?

Shall I point my finger at the damned?

And warn them of the judgement at hand?

Oh, what may I do to recompense?

Wear your custom clothes at others’ expense?

Mister Righteous, with answers I seek

Shall I tune in at this time next week?

So you can tell me from the TV

About the way that my life should be?

This is one of the best poems I've read in a super, duper long time. Extremists in religion doesn't always mean they want to go around killing everyone, there's such a thing as mentally abusing Nazi's Isis and everything else, a lot that criticize how people within their religion live, people who go around thinking that they're god and that they know what he'd say, instead of acting like your equal

Unfortunately that is how some churchs and people are. They do it all for the wrong reasons. You are very right when it comes to most. Thanks for sharing!

Well written and delivered!
I agree with Sami on this piece, you can't buy righteousness
and those that think they can I will pray for:( Faith alone in Christ
alone will get you home in paradise! Thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

Righteousness can't be bought and sold and those who do it for the money have lost their moral compass. An excellent write on this subject...:)................

A realistic poem with a honest view.

I dislike the television Preachers. I believe we must atone for our sins by trying to live a good life. Not giving money to men in fancy suits. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
