Nothing Left

Nothing Left

A Poem by Jessica Q
"

A phone call never haunted as much as this one did

"

He says he’s got nothing left to live for

Sometimes it’s to hard to wait for the next quick fix

He has become a stranger to some

But to others he’s still an inspiration

The golden boy who was going to go far

Then she came

She made him happier then anything else ever did

And ever will or so he thinks

He was stronger because of her

On top of the world

Holding the world

But that was several years ago

Then she broke his heart … two summers ago

Now we’re back to mid-summer

The memories return

Sleepless nights and late night phone calls to the open ears of best friends

The need to get sober, but without the will to pull through

The ghosts return and nothing can push them out

The lost and found has never been so hidden

We all bleed the same way he does

He’s not sure what he’s looking for, but he doesn’t want to look anymore

He’s looked in all the wrong places, but he has no will to overcome

Looking for the answers at the bottom of an empty bottle

Didn’t get him very far

All of this has brought us here

He’s searching for any sign of life within him

The creeping blindness shields him from seeing anything

He’s convinced there is not even a spark

Everyone has a reason to put the past away so why not him

All of this has brought us to this ledge

He says he’s got nothing left to live for

My screaming doesn’t seem to make him budge

You’re not alone

There is more to this life than this pain

You can make it out of this

I wish you would change your mind

To him it’s not worth it

Hold on if you feel like letting go

You don’t need to do it alone

I’ll never let you go

With his eyes glassy he kneels down in front of me

He breaks down to release the pain

I know you have something left to live for
