Knowing

Knowing

A Poem by Pain Love & Skulls

How do you sleep at night

Knowing

Knowing what you have done

The pain you caused

The damage you did

The scars that will remain

How do you sleep at night

Peacefully, calmly, in comfort

While knowing what you have done

While I cannot sleep I lay there in pain

Cant catch my breath to save my life

Tears stream down my face like a waterfall

The pain was almost as bad as how bad you hurt me

I sit there and think

Think about how I will never fully recover from what you have done and said

Think about how I always came back

For years

No matter what you said or did

I always came back

But never again

Never again will I come back to

And be your little play toy

I was a page in your book

You read me and never look back

But you don’t care

It doesn’t affect you

You don’t care that you used me, that I am done

And will never come back to you

I will never be hurt by you again

But you will never care you are emotionless

How do you sleep at night

Knowing

Knowing what you have done

The pain you caused

The damage you did

This is un-refrained which is fantastic.
"Never again will I come back to
And be your little play toy
I was a page in your book
You read me and never look back"
I'm quite sure people have said that to me before, and that I have said it to others also. So I understand both sides of the poem.
I really hurts, doesn't it?

Anyways this was an excellent poem.
Keep up the great work!

This piece is so strong. The questions of apathy and the persona's despair are powerfully described in every line. Good job!
Keep writing.

.... This is a very powerful, heart-wrenching piece of work.... I think almost anyone can relate to it which makes it even more personal. It almost hurt to read it. Very good, very direct.

Hmmm... Darling, it seems we write for the same reason. The heart may never heal and the mind will never forget, but the pain becomes bearable (or barable?) after a while. I love the flow of the free verse even though it seems some lines should have run together but a lovely story portrayed out of feelings and put into a poem.

this sounds like you got quite a bit off your chest here, which is the point of poetry, but your song has been sung many times over, I'm afraid.

*shivers* God memories are hard. When you finally think you have gotten past it, it comes back and haunts you even more. Then you think that all you deserve is a guy who abuses you and calls you fat, ugly, stupid. Memories are a pain in the rear. This is very real and very true and anyone who has gone through this sorta situation will understand. Great work.

Powerful write...people experience emotional trauma all the time now...it hurts to feel sorrow weighing you down. Anyways, nice poem. It evoked a lot of feeling when I read, like I can almost imagine the entire scene playing out. Great job.
