Oh, Darling!

Oh, Darling!

A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss
"

for Stellar.

"
She is unowned. She is tied down.
She is less than what you hope for
and more than meets the eye. She is
the captivating captive of
her own prison. And these walls, these walls,
all these walls she has built up
with pictures and poetry. And
Oh, darling! the wings of her heart
are so heavy
they weigh it down.

She has made her own jail cell,
she has chained her own body here,
she has blinded her own eyes,
she has fought her own strength.
Oh, darling! She built her own prison,
and these walls, these walls,
all these walls you will not get through.
Though she would love
to be yours,
she would love to be out of her own control.

But don't think there is no way out,
don't give up on the lighthearted girl
whose flight is unattainable,
the girl in the cage made of her words.
Oh, she is willing to be freed
and the perfect song will break the prison walls.
A sword of lyrical force will set her free,
will make her a prisoner to the author.
Please do not worry yourself,
Oh, darling! It just hasn't been written yet.
