Lost Chimneys

Lost Chimneys

A Poem by Jordyn Zacharias

A chimney stands
With a house in the wood
Warms the hands
Of the young and the old
Until they waste away

Years pass by
The people gone
Wind creeps in
Panes broken by careless stones
Thrown by the hands of time

Broken boards rotting away
Become home to something new
The boards will waste across the years
Sinking into the mud

A Chimney stands
In an empty wood
But now the hearth stands cold
Its friendly fire gone
Lost to the winds of time
