The Vestige of Youth

The Vestige of Youth

A Poem by Josh Anderson

You left me alone, with a wounded soul
When I needed you most
A ghost
Of what used to be whole
A shadow of a Saint
A shadow masked by a smile of pain

A wanderer, a vagabond
Destination unknown
Alone
But pretended nothing was wrong
A vestige of youth
Who grew up too soon

Outward appearance deceives
A vessel of lies
No cries
But no ones believes
That he's fine
That everything is alright

Hands try to guide
He pushes away
Afraid
To let them inside
Too much pain in the past to give in easily
Those who never learn, repeat history

He wanders, he sees
The offer is sincere
A tear
Thanks God on his knees
Something solid, a foundation in a life filled with sand
And a sorrowful man
