I'm A Blackstar

I'm A Blackstar

A Poem by J.J. Matthews
"

For all of the Blackstars that don't fit in. Thank you David. You gave me life.

"

I’m a Blackstar, yet I do not shine.

I’m told all the time that I cannot truly be a star,

That I have no place in the world and all would be well,

If I were to just fade.

I am, by far, the most bizarre.

A question unanswered by the other stars in the night sky.

And while I, the one Blackstar, sometimes wish I could shine,

I take pride in my difference.

I know also that during the course of time I will not only be accepted,

But I will be revered.

I’m a Blackstar, yet I do not sparkle.

I hear rhymes of the stars sung by the Children of Earth.

The little star that twinkled in the night,

The one brightest star that burned at the birth of Christ.

Why not sing of the Blackstar?

The one who sings loudest and his tone calls angels.

His words tell a story as he strums his guitar.

He knew of the day he’d make another Blackstar.

I’m a Blackstar, yet I do not shoot.

The shooting star that propels to the farthest reaches of the universe.

It soars with grace and booms at the end.

When the star explodes in the night sky,

Shaped of a diamond,

The Children of Earth have diamonds in their eyes.

The Blackstar just watches on as the fireworks display themselves,

The Children of Earth praise the bright stars, the white stars.

They sing with the pop stars and the rock stars.

They watch the superstars and the movie stars.

The Blackstar makes his sound and before he knows,

He has diamonds in his eyes.

On the day the Blackstar fades he doesn’t cry.

From Jupiter to Mars, the Blackstar has seen all.

The Earth revolves and the Blackstar sees the blue.

He remains true to his sounds and faith in the Children of Earth.

He waves goodbye because he knows what he leaves behind.

For all of us who can’t sparkle or shine,

We look to where the Blackstar once stood.

Raise our hearts to the sky and bravely cry,

I’m a Blackstar.

I'm not stealing ideas or anything. Bowie was my greatest inspiration and it really hit me when he died.
