Bear

Bear

A Poem by Judy Ponceby
"

Mom, tell me about Bear...

"
My son's brown Bear
Sits up on a shelf.
A little battered
From all the love.

He appeared in ICU
When our baby was only a day or two.
Brown, shiny eyes twinkling,
Vest clean and trim,
Bow-tie in place.

Over the years Bear has been here
For the first bath, first words, first steps.
For the day our son tied his shoes himself
To the day he rode his two-wheeler without trainers.

Twelve years and more Bear has been with us.
A little battered from being loved.
He has shared in our stories
And in our tears, in our laughter
and in our love.

God Bless, Bear. We love you.

Wow, a poem about a teddybear. I love it. Find this so touching as I love teddybears and have loads at home. You able to pinpoint such precise and unique moments. "He appeared in ICU/When our baby was only a day or two" and "To the day he rode his two-wheeler without trainers." Okay, so this sounds crazy, but I think teddy will be very honoured by this poem. Perhaps print it out and put it beside him.

Nicely done. :)
You really capture the everyday aspects of life in poetry well; you make them something more.

Sometimes the most simple objects hold huge amounts of complex human emotion..this bear is one of them...well done, judy..soft, gentle and loving.
