Only Yesterday

I bitter sweet message from a one lover to another

How long has it been?

It seems as though it was just yesterday that we were together.

Have you been smiling? I mean really smiling?

Feels like only yesterday that you smiled at me.



Are you doing well?

Don’t lie to me!

I know you aren’t…

Not since the incident.



Yesterday you stopped eating cake because it was my favorite.

Yesterday you snapped at some kid who said my favorite author sucks.

Yesterday you cried into my favorite plushie for hours.

Yesterday you gave up on life, again.



Stop blaming yourself.

It isn’t your fault.

Don’t neglect your needs anymore.

I still love you.

I’ll always love you.



I’ll be watching, so be sure to try and improve, at least for me.

Live your life while you can.

Don’t stop just because I'm no longer there with you.

Author's Note

I came up with this in one of my science classes during my high school senior yeah. it has nothing to do with science, just some random idea that I had while waiting for other students to finish the test we were taking.

I forget the most of the back story I originally had in mind to go along with this. I do remember wanting to make more poems centered around the original concept of this poem, sort of like a poetry collection with all of them connecting in to a single narrative. Maybe one day I will remember my initial idea and rework it all into another book idea someday.
