Celebrate

Celebrate

A Poem by Julia Simoneau
"

What is the point of a holiday?

"
Why is February fourteenth the only day set aside for love?
Why is Thanksgiving the only day set aside to give thanks?
Why is the start of the new year set aside for change?
Why are birthdays set aside to celebrate life?
What about the other days in the year?
Is there nothing worth celebrating?

With each breath you take,
You are given the gift of life.
This egg shell is strong,
But will always break with little resistance.
Each precious moment of life is worth celebrating.
Make dreams and try to accomplish them.
Life is too short to not live.

Each day is the start of a new adventure,
Surrounded by the people who mutually love you.
Is this love not worth celebrating
Every day of the year?
Are you not thankful for this
Every day of the year?

Are commercialized holidays needed
To celebrate life?
Commotions of people swarm
Through the stores
To buy gifts of every price.
Is price needed to celebrate love?

Do you celebrate a day
Or do you celebrate life?

I wrote this while thinking about Valentine's Day. Although I had a rather good Valentine's Day with the people I love, I started to wonder why everybody gets so commercialized. Is it needed?

I actually do celebrate my holidays all retardedly. Last year I had a Thanksgiving in August. Mostly because I could. Then I made a pot pie out of the leftovers. Christmas is anytime I get anything. The actual day is just time I spend with family. Too bad with the commercialism, it kills me that my son won't understand the true meanings of the holidays. Seems like everybody has gone political and money driven. Sad...

I like your thoughts on here, I don't celebrate stuff like valentines or thanks giving and yes I agree with you!! Excellent poem:)

You raise some good questions in this...we shouldn't need to spend money to celebrate life, love or thanks....good job....

I like the logic in your poem. I agree with your thoughts. Each day should be a day to celebrate life. To be kind and tell the special people in a life. We love them. I like the question at the end of the poem. A outstanding poem.

Oh I love that I really love that i did a blog post all on that and you did poetry so well n it too. Their truly is no purpose for these holidays and our dates nothing but, people wanting us to shop shop shop and spend spend spend. For if we must be thankful for things lets us say thank you everyday and if we most show praise to people we love the most in life let us say it everyday "I love you" nothing ever needs to be set in stone; all we need to do is move our lips everyday and let the words slip and live life to the fullest and never at what people set for us. So let not let the commercials make our life as you say but, make our own every second, minute, hour, day, month, and years and years to come. Anyways well done and happy i got to read this.

I suppose this is a question thousands of people ask each year, particularly around Christmas time. I agree, every day should be a celebration of life. Great write, and great thoughts. Thanks.
