Of All My Stars...

Of All My Stars...

A Poem by J.P. Bristow
"

A nod to Pablo Neruda and the boy who could fly.--repost

"

The only boy I ever loved
Used to read me
Neruda from my nightstand

In elongated tones
He would repeat words of such passion
From a hot pink paperback

Leafing through love

In a faded t-shirt
He drove me to distraction
I never knew quite why?

This soft spoken boy with a hiccupping giggle
And eyes that windowed unfathomable greatness
Possessed me with such ease

I loved the feel of my ear to his chest
As he read and breathed
Breathed and read

Turning pages in slow calculation
Casually whetting his fingertip

I would rest my palm over his heart
Gently clinging to love
As he ran his fingers through my hair

Closing my eyes
With a smile pressed to his skin
I would drown in his scent

Willingly.

a minor bump in the road --- as for the way this slowly burns the reader --- the ending is quite a finish line...yet leaves us with wanting more in the closure...

Willingly, this had me sucking up each line with delicate ease... Faded, I hear dirt, but in elongated tones, I stay in my T-shirt... What is love but a leaf falling through a page... Passionately penned...

This is so full of passion and sensual affection I had to read it twice to fill my heart again. This seems, to me, like a tip of the hat towards a love that has become yet a another memory. sweet as it is, I cannot sense that this union has split like a cell in the womb. A sour touch with such a remorseful sweetness, like sugar in black coffee. Just as anyone else, I, too, have those heavenly memories forever recorded in time. You have an extremely delightful read here, Just amazing.

J.P., this is extraordinary! I've never read you before...until I read your bio, and saw a photo of Keats...then, I was hooked.

I loved every line of this...the way you reversed the phrase, "read and breathed" was amazingly brilliant!

By the way, I'm Kelly...nice to meet you!

This one left the taste of how I daydreamed moments could be before life intruded and realities took control.

Simply beautiful!

I don't know why, but in my head I hear these words in the serious voice of Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Maybe it's simply the feel of your line, "In elongated tones," that slips me inside that lilting voice.

Anyway, pardon my nearly useless aside...

I do like the gentle, lilting tone of the piece. Poems are so much better when they transcend language and find a real voice. I believe you have done that here. Excellent job!

I bet.......
I love the style here. "Willingly" is one of those words that clings to you all evening like the bottom
of a wet shirt. The images are lush and heavy even tomographic as it produces a three dimensional image of "this" impinging energy. Nicely written but even nicer concieved....dana

*sigh.
I imagine go back to nights just like those.
That once upon a time when I loved a poet.
Thank you for the memory.
Pablo... What to say about Pablo. Maybe my first true love?
