Butterfly

Butterfly

~~~
Poised for flight, with wings held high
she dreams she is a butterfly
floating through a sky of blue
to dance ‘pon a cloud or two
sunbeams weave a light within
so shadows can’t find her when
poised for flight, with wings held high
she dreams she is a butterfly
~~~

Author's Note

The Octelle is a form created by Emily Romano. It has eight lines and the rhyme scheme is aabbccaa, the syllable count is 88777788. The first two lines are repeated as the last two lines. What further sets the form, in its description, is using personification and symbolism in a telling manner.

You've truly taken an established form and made it your own my friend. This piece captivated my imagination with many ideas and emotions. Lovely work Julie :)

This reads like a poem that you have written for your lovely daughter as she spreads her wings and leaves the nest.
I love the soft and floating rhyme and story here.

You had me at the title. My love for butterflies just soared when I met Frieda, she gave them so much life, much more than what they originally had so when I saw the title I was hooked. This is just gorgeous, Julie. So creative and perfect.

A beautiful, creative poetic write and indeed, the contrasting similarities between the graceful ballet dancer and the majestic butterfly in flight are sublime !

And thanks Ms Jewell for the informative intro regarding an ' Octelle', ( I'm still a bit of a philistine when it comes to poetic form ) !
