Lies are Forever

Lies are Forever

A Poem by Just Plain Me

A laugh lasts a moment,
a tear not much longer.
But a lie is forever,
and makes the reciever so much stronger.

You can't take back a lie,
you can't make it disappear.
It leaves a permanent scar,
that no apology will heal...no matter how sincere.

Don't make a promise you cannot keep,
when it's broken, the price is steep.
Don't take the whole heart,
when you only want a part.

A smile lasts a minute,
a sob a few more.
A broken heart never heals,
the pain just gets easier to ignore.

You can't undo the past,
you can't erase a mistake.
It leaves a unending pain,
when it only took a minute to break.

Don't make a girl love you,
when she's just your latest screw.
Don't give a girl dreams,
when you plan to rip out the seams.

No, you can't take them back but perhaps that's what we're all supposed to learn. Better yet if we can learn it from your poem before we do it for real. Not everything should have to be learned the hard way. Thanks for sharing.
