Avarice

Avarice

A Poem by Justin Street
"

greed

"
Stable loving life
Making through each day
But I want more, and more
I want the world to pay

I gamble and cheat
Lie and steal
I want more than enough
To buy mere meals

I want everything
I need so much more
I need to be a leader
To get my stocks to soar

I hold all funds
I control the police
This is my world
With wealth obese

The title caught my attention.
I love the word 'avarice.'
It means so much more than plain ol' 'greed.'
And the poem lived up to the expectations I held for it.
This was deep. Is deep. Whatever.
You get the point. It's deep. :p
That last stanza was my favorite, and it served as an excellent ending for a fantastic piece of literature :)

I liked this poem. It reminded me of this story we read in class, but I forgot what it was called because it was like in October we read it. I just know that this poem is better than that story. I liked it better as well. Thanks for sharing. :)

This is a pretty deep poem I feel... I was attracted to the title...The content, on the surface looks like wishful thinking making no apologies about its avaricious nature, as proven by the title itself. And yet, it teaches a kind of lesson and compels the reader to introspect. In fact,it highlights greed in its various forms very prominently, with a longing attached to it as well, and the net result is that all the dark aspects of greed become apparent without even mentioning them. I think it is a very intelligent write. Wonderful work. Keep it up! :)

Avarice, Acquisitiveness, Materialism and uh Greed, I like how you used the word "Avarice" as your title, it brings out more depth then it would've had it been Greed alone. I like how you wrote this, most of us can come to relate to this point, where we retch this in disgust and come to regret this time, greed blinds us to our own senses, it blinds to who we are and what we are becoming. Greed is a common defect, that can take over. The way we it diceives our personlaities. Greed is what you have portrayed. Very effective. Nice write.

Keep writing, alwyas

Many people can relate to this. I know someone who is that controlling that he would do anything for it. I just think wait it ain't gonna happen only in your dreams. Excelliant poem

Awesome piece, I loved the last line "With wealth obese" I think we've all been here, and wanted this. Definately like the "self wallowing rich kids", and I think we're all guilty of Avarice, at some point in our lives. Awesome job, love! :]

sounds like one of the "self wallowing rich kids" you can talk to. i like it because it makes you think of the times you've been that person and feel disgusted. i think it will encourage many.
