Religion

Religion

A Poem by Krystal Thomas

She gets her way,

She gets so wasted;

Her eyes are dazed,

She hates herself,

Naked.

She fixates,

On her plate.

You fixate,

On her face.

She binges,

She purges.

You plead her,

You pull her.

You pray in her church,

In her temple,

The bathroom.

The place where,

She hurts,

And,

You cry to her,

Listen.

You cry,

Why won’t she listen.

She wonders,

The same thing.

She cries to you,

Please listen.

Why can’t you listen.

You step back,

You listen.

You notice,

The addiction.

You see,

Her religion.

Her God,

Isn’t God.

Her God,

Is a demon.

I love, love, love the repetition and sort of folding & unfolding of the same terms (she fixates/you fixate, please listen/why can't you listen/you listen).
Very beautiful look at something that can be so painful.

This was dark. I will say I wasn't expecting the ending, but it was very effective. I liked this very much. Good job!
