In Remembrance

My heart split in half the moment you left

My heart aches at the thought of your last breath

My heart cries in pain knowing you will never return

I fear that people will never learn

I fear that they will still get behind that wheel

So many hearts left broken and unable to heal

So many lives taken by a repeated decision

Alcohol hinders people’s judgment and vision

Alcohol took you from us that fateful day

In a blink of an eye our angel was ripped away

In a blink of an eye our lives were shaken

Left in this nightmare from which we will never waken

I know you are watching over those you love

I know you are watching from above

Let them feel your love from all around

Let them feel you in the words I write down

Show them your memory will always last

For you enjoyed life and had a blast

We will always miss you and forever cry

We will always love you and this is not goodbye

For we will always need to stop and say hello…

[Ink Stained]

In remembrance is haunting in its starkness. The reader knows at once that there is a great loss. Then they learn that alcohol was a major contributing factor. But was it self inflicted or was the deceased a victim of someone else's alcohol use. That is the mystery. Finally, at the last line there is the twist, the grace note of hope. Thank you for the poem.

This was quite remarkable. It is sad and it is a perfect depiction of a real-life situation that too many people have to face. If this was from your own personal experience...I hope you find all the resolve you need.
It was perfectly displayed in so many ways from the reasons for her departure, to the emotions mixed in with her disappearance.

Even though I can't personally relate, I can put myself in the position of those who can, and I feel the sorrow leaking freely in this twisted world. Nice job, keep it up

Death is something undefined. Causes are sometimes avoidable, sometimes not. This is educational to some point for some people. It shows the after effect of the whole situation. Nicely written.
