Kinghorn

Kinghorn

A Poem by KT-B
"

Childhood memories of summer holidays.

"

"Kinghorn"

Oh little place by the sea

the memories you arouse in me

that fresh sea smell the yellow beach

and our own home town just out of reach

the excitement we felt just driving there

singing songs without a care

all crammed into to Dad's wee car

we thought we were going far

but we were only 50 miles away

to us it seemed to take all day

in the wee house we'd all unpack

mum immediately made a snack

but before she could say "there's your tea"

we'd all be in bathers and into the sea

jumping waves with my sister Jo

singing my bonny lies over the ocean you know

then my brothers would duck us nearly drowning

always laughing and never frowning

later we'd spend a pound in the arcade

then down to the hotel for a lemonade

nothing too fancy as money was tight

then straight to bed, don't let the bugs bite

mum would save all her tins of food

to make sure and feed all of her brood

endless days of summer fun was had

me and my family, mum and dad

when I go back there with my own kids today

I can still see my mother clear as day

standing at the doorway with her rolling pin

shouting "teas on the table" now get yourselves in

KTBradley,
"Kinghorn" What a beautiful title by the way.
This saga of entrancement flowing from your inner memory just flows with personal loveliness flowing!
From the first line,"Oh little place by the sea, the memories you arouse in me." This is like an invitation to those reading, (it was for me) to find our own memory and just bask.
As you relate yellow sands, swimming in the waves, lemonade at the hotel and going to the arcade; it is the family and their voices and smiles and playful love and hearts that stand out so gloriously. Mother and father deserved the high point of honor in this little lovely story for they made the experience possible. To me that part was so priceless.
Your writing is so very uplifting.
Thank you so much! I was so loving reading every word.
Blessings, Kathy

Another great piece capturing memories. I could feel the cool ocean breeze across my face as a silent observer watching your family fun.

Very well expressed thoughts of memories, I love the way you bring them alive here through the poem... The memories of childhood never fade away, no matter how old we get they stay in our heart forever till our last breath... A memory of life... Well done...

I am really into memories (in fact it's this weeks theme of the writing group I go to in Inverkeithing!) and they are a great source of inspiration for writing. Your poem rings very true for me but as i have lived in Fife most of my life its not too surprising.
Well done but no need to apologise - I think memories come best if you just go with the flow.
Regards,
Alan
