a goodbye to a wonderful friend

"Sad Farewell"

It was only twenty years ago

I met you and got to know

This Irish girl, with heart of gold

All the stories that you told

had me mesmerized and glad

 some were happy, some were sad

The laughs we shared, drunken nights

Putting all the world to rights

Never a better friend, did I make

Now you're gone, I cried a lake

Never expected you to go so quick

Still had a lot of life to kick

Places to go, plans in place

God I miss your familiar face

I'm a better person because of you

The beliefs, you held so true

Your loyalty to your family and friends

Are all that matter, when life ends

You lived yours so fully dear

With grace, kindness and good cheer

So this is my sad farewell

To my mother-in-law who I did gel

Not everyone is as lucky as me

We got on so well you see

She had my back in everyway

It's not everyone can say

they had a mother-in-law so dear

who's in heaven now, I have no fear

God's loyal servant, one to commend

My lovely Lilly, my dearest friend

Hi... Beautifully written, could feel your love for your mother in law through your words.
I lost my mother in law recently and had a close relationship with her.. Your poem resonated with me..
