The Journey to SafetyA Poem by Kael IslingrA Journey to Safety
My name is Adam And I’m free To do what I choose Whether I win Or lose
I lived in a warm and mellow home Filled with safety, and peace Built in my youth Amidst a Dark Forest Filled with life Its trees waved and whispered Under servitude To the Mountains Rulers among the valley We lived in Verdaunt Land of the willow
Every day was a joy We strove, and worked hard to make our home a perfect place We lived in peace And were liberal to all
We hunted the denizens of the Forest By hiding in the mud When they appeared they fell The screamed! Pierced by our arrows They all fell; Deers who hid like shadows, Boars as fierce as lions, And Rodents as big as cats With fangs of poison
The day my joy ended Came with surprise
Father, Strong, and Stoic, Who cared for And loved Our Gentle, Meek, and Thoughtful Mother Was away taking our sick Mother to be healed My Eldest Brother Kael had gone into the forest To gather meat and wood I took care of our youngest, John Meek and quiet was he He had inherited the magic blood of our mother And our way with animals As for me, I have always took solace in the forest And the plants Their whispers and rustles Are gentle and quiet As if they were speaking to me
We were feeding the swine An arrow hissed A warcry rose The barn went up in flames Unable to escape We were captured We left the charred ground of what had once been My Home My Sanctuary And the Forest
Endlessly we trekked Over steep hills And banks Over the mighty Hanaga River And through torment, and whips Through sorrow, And grief for our home
We reached the Black Mountains Our feet torn and bloody, We knew not to cry or complain They gave us hammers, and pickaxes They told us to break the stone
Night after Night Day after Day They told us to break the stone We knew not why
They told us to chop the trees They told us to carry the stone They told us to take it to the top of the mountain and roll it down We knew not why
One day The mountain cracked People screamed And ran away Golemns and Giants came out of the dust Led by a man In scarlet robes
He forced us to march with him Though our feet were sore And bloody
Our shoes long gone We marched and marched Until my brother fell ill
The day my brother fell ill He began to cough Hour after hour Minute after minute Second after second he grew worse
At night I wrapped him in rags taken from my clothes And from the thin blanket they gave us And I carried him
Day after day they hunted for us Night after night we fled North Slightly to the west, our Father had said Lay Avendar Land of knights, and chivalry
They finally caught up to us I ran and hid Fleeing as best I could They cornered my at the river
Devoid of all hope My brother was nearly dead Without purpose I grabbed a nearby log
Arrows hissed And I thought I was dead But then I realized Someone stood in front of me He held a shield and he blocked the arrows Men in green emerged from the woods
The Diusian Forces held their ground For a short while men screamed And groaned And I trembled as men surrounded me A Man in blue robes forced me to drink a drought And I struggled but to no avail My strength failed me The man who helped me caught me I saw his face Kael...
I woke in a white bed Inside a grey tent Where was John?!! Trying to sit up I was pushed down by a strong hand
It was Kael His eyes were filled with tears And mine did too
Without hesitation Before I could He put his arms around me And cried
I cried with him And suddenly I heard a small voice Shrill with excitement “You’re Awaaaaaake!!!!!” I braced myself But nothing came John stared at me with a curious look Then burst out laughing I asked what was so funny “I would hug you but Kael said that I shouldn’t and...” Kael interrupted “Alright little buddy, that’s enough, Adam need to rest so he can get better” Lifting Johns thin but healthy frame Kael walked out of the tent”
I knew one thing for certain I would fight for Avendar. © 2017 Kael IslingrReviews
