My Christmas List Then and Now

Last time I wrote

about Christmas and Joy

about wishes of peace

And of warfare that may end

And of poverty that may cease

In a world that is bright

Where I was in the illusion of it's peak

But years ago seemed so far away

And Christmas had less joy

and peace was farther away

warfare became our back door

and poverty grew

Where I am in it's bottom

But now grown up I wish

For self reflection and renewal

Of joy learned from true sorrow

Of peace built not on a repeated history of war

But from it's scars and hope

And of equality even amongst those in poverty

My renewed child's wishes

that is true

A wish that has remained

The hope for a start

All of this remains true

deep in my heart

these remain

For God who made this world I know

My grown up Christmas wishes

Is not impossible
