A Poem by Kain Smith
"

A musing on OCD and how it has affected my life.

"
OCD is
OCD must be organized.
Everything must be right.
No, no wait. That's not right.

OCD is
Stepping over cracks as a child
Because too literally does your
Mind take the childhood rhyme of
"Step on a crack, break mama's back."

OCD is
OCD must be clean.
Everything must be spotless.
No, no wait, that's not right.

OCD is
Panicking at the very conceit
Of cross-contamination.
It is wasted food that could have been eaten
For fear of illness and death.

OCD is
OCD is everything must be straight.
Nothing can be out of place.
No, no wait. That's not right.

OCD is
Staying up all night as a child,
Not for joyous pursuits, but for fear
Of sleep meaning sleep eternal.
Thoughts of death intrude on calm.

OCD is
Praying to the cross over and over,
Resting on bended knee, sure it
Won't ever be enough to save
A sinner like you- a child.

OCD is
Analyzing every action
For what you did wrong.
Pondering endlessly why they hate you.

OCD is
Hiding in the room
Desperately scratching

OCD is
Fear

OCD is
Hate

OCD is

OCD is

OCD is

OCD is
OCD must be organized.
Everything must be in its place.
