The Story Albert Thompson Told

The Story Albert Thompson Told

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Kenny, please don't turn your back to me.

I'm standing here alone in the cold.

My eyes are red, I'm bleeding, please...

Don't leave me alone on this road.

The dark night air is icy and bitter,

Please don't leave me alone.

My breath is fading, I soon will shiver...

I'll die listening to the stories Albert Thompson told:

"Lonely footsteps, loud with anger,

Hit the yellow lines in song.

There is a threat of chilling danger-

Yet the pace remains fast, and strong.

Lying there amongst the cold,

Hidden within the trees height...

Comes something not foretold,

As up approaches fast headlights."

Please don't leave me with myself, Kenny.

Don't leave me to die in my soul.

I want to be with what is familiar-

Have with me what I found in youth, when I am old.

I will die within myself tonight.

I will never be the same.

Because I was born the day

That I heard you say my name.

Great poetry Kaitlyn... The feelings of despair are beautifully expressed. The concluding verse is stunning!

I will die within myself tonight.
I will never be the same.
Because I was born the day
That I heard you say my name."
