Distracted

Distracted

A Poem by Kate P. Lamb
"

Sometimes what you're seeing isn't what's in front of you

"

Dappled sunlight winks at me

Between autumn-kissed leaves

The vast sky beyond

So blue I could get lost in it

The very meaning of peace

The soft hum of insects

Busy settling their lives

Among vast blooms in dazzling shades of colour

But I barely notice them

I barely feel the wind

Caressing my skin with easy familiarity

Nor the sound of the trees’ wordless whispers

I’d rather think of you

I am 2000km away

Watching you in my mind’s eye

Hearing you laugh

Feeling you move

Seeing your eyes twinkle at me

My reason for breath

You capture me

Entrap all my senses

So all I know is you

So when I feel the sun

I think it’s your touch

When the wind whispers to me

It’s really your voice in my ear

And no flower in the world

Can match the beauty of your eyes

When they meet mine

This autumn day

Is filled with memories of you

I welcome them with open arms

And a whisper on my lips

Greeting you

It's beautiful baby. I wish my writing could capture your beauty, it'll never come close, though. ;)
