My Fallen Angel (Words of Ash)

My Fallen Angel (Words of Ash)

A Poem by Kate P. Lamb
"

The disjointed ramblings of despair, disbelief and the ultimate betrayal

"

You were my life’s light once,

Now no more,

The arms that used to hold me,

Now push me back,

The words that once fell from your lips,

Are now naught but ashes in your mouth,

Meaningless and worthless to my ears

You said you’d always love me,

Never hurt me,

That you’d die before betraying me

Were those words all false?

Or were they simple ardour of the moment,

That once spoken,

Lost all meaning to you,

Though they stayed in my heart as oaths?

I waited for you,

As you could not for me,

And despite your words of ash,

You were unfaithful to me

And the vows you made

Where is the honour in that?

I suffered as you did,

I pined as you did,

Yearned for touch as you did

But I waited, as you could not

I was true, as you could not be

I kept up my end of the deal

If the words you spoke to me

Were just words

Then why speak them?

Why make me believe,

That I’d finally found happiness,

And let me wander so long,

In the miasma of illusion?

Have you no decency,

No respect for others,

No honour for yourself or those who love you?

You are the worst of liars,

You are the worst of cheats,

You went back on an oath

To the mind, body and soul

Flesh of my flesh,

Bone of my bone,

Blood of my blood,

Well I have marked your flesh as mine,

Though I can touch it no more,

For you offer it to me no longer

But you will look upon it and know forever

The destruction you have caused

The heartache you have spread

And the mistake you have made

Goodbye.
