The one thing I can distinguish in this confused state is how dark it is. It's not the kind of dark, like when the lights are out and your door is closed, or the dark of the night outside. In both of those situations at least you still have the moonlight. My case is different. It's pitch black. The kind of suffocating, lifeless black that makes me feel as if I'm trapped in a room with walls that seem to slowly creep their way closer and closer, enclosing me inside until crushing me and forming me into a creature of the night. It's the kind of dark that promises no light, and I feel something. Fear. As my senses sharpen, and I remain stuck here in this everlasting darkness, a sound surrounds me; the sound of rice krispies, only amplified like cracking wood. It's as if I'm awake, but I see nothing. I hear one last thing before I fall into a state of total unconsciousness.
Someone's screaming.
