The Stygian Hours

The Stygian Hours

A Poem by Kay

It’s during the stygian hours that I dance with the devil,

succumbing to his offering of hospitality,

wrapping his red arms around my shivering shoulders

and whispering poetry by the fireplace.

Oh, those words.. floating beautifully,

like the spring breath beneath a newborn daisy’s dress,

gliding across her tender ankles,

the stem of her verdant thigh,

climbing towards her baroque centerpiece,

almost touching it,

almost there,

… almost.

My eyes water in his presence;

such warmth laying ruin to my arctic walls,

coercing infatuation within my veins

by lifting my wrist delicately to his lips

and planting the softest

embrace.

Hi, Kay 🥀

I'm simply, Richard.
It took reading a number of your excellent pieces before this one finally chose me … not that I overlooked the others without due, appreciative wonderment.
Was it the excellent artwork choice, the sumptuous title, how your skillfully laid adjectives, vibrant imagery, and metaphors brought the moment alive within the heartbeats of my fertile imagination; or, was it in the ways such enthrallment dancing in your words that brought the scintillating parts of my manly blood to a warmly thrumming, breathless stir?
Hm? T'would seem my questions became their own answers, eh? ; )
Wondrously sensuous, without saying, this reveals (to me) the true depths of your lustfully beautiful, imaginative yearnings … but, that's just me.
I can almost hear you giggling at my fumbling attempts to decipher the brilliant essence of your poetic soul. How could I possibly critique something so amazingly, so perfectly … effective?

Let me close with a sincere, "Thank you, Dear Poetess, for a most delightfully beguiling moment shared." ⁓ Richard 🍃

This is a delicious read, 'wicked' in the delightful sense of the word! And how words can seduce and arouse as they trail around our consciousness and affect our desires and longing. The image of the serpent caressing with his silk smoothness was perfect - and the 'baroque masterpiece' somehow aroused by its sense of splendour and glory.
The last stanza delicately conveyed the sense of need and longing and yet of hesitation to bite the proffered fruit...
How well the words flowed and conveyed the longings that so often are felt in the darkness of the night.

Thanks!!! I love words so much.
OMG! sensuality at its boldest, at it's most perfect. This is a very passionate and delicate yet explicit piece. To weave such intimacy and such innocence into one flowing free verse is indeed a tallent!
