When Walls Crumble

When Walls Crumble

A Poem by Koari
"

Rock climbers face many dangers when trying to scale a wall, but that's the beauty of the sport; beating the odds and making it to the top. Dedicated to my sister, the best rock climber I know.

"
The wind blows fierce as you measure your distance,
your hands covered in chalk and feet in place.
You stand up with your legs to reach for the hold,
your mind set on pulling yourself a little higher.

The wall seems to crumble at your touch,
your hand grips on pebbles and you lose your footing.
You feel your belayer tighten your rope,
your body is tense from avoiding a drop.

The sun shines high and you find your place,
your feet in a different position and ready to spring.
You feel the adrenaline in your blood,
and you try to reach the hold again.

Author's Note

Koari
Just in case you don't know climbing terms:
hold(s) = An intended place for your hands and/or feet when you climb.
belayer = someone who is on the ground, working the rope that is attached the the two climbers with equipment so the one on the wall doesn't fall from a high distance.
Hope you liked it, and if you haven't tried climbing before, you should.. it's a blast!

Nicely done, Koari. Have you submitted this poem to some of the rock climbing magazines?
