Surfacing

Surfacing

A Poem by A Glow in the Pit of My Soul

I am beach sweaty and sleepy sad

Heavy heart full of tender things
Body bursting with nerve endings

I am sun dizzy and lit like a match

Tugged under by the current
But there is a quiet comfort in the cool
Arms of the water

It only becomes blinding,
deafening, disorientingly severe
When you break the surface and

start fighting for your breath again
