Masked Thoughts

In her memory

Masked thoughts kept hidden from the world

they house a world of their own, that of a girl

she is troubled by the river of life and its complicated current

the rapids of growing up are all too apparent 

Troubled waters, set lines to fish out, troubled daughters

fathers, they're all animals setting paths for teenage cannibals 

feeding off on depression, cutting deep to bleed relief 

this is reality for one little girl, don't disbelieve 

The tide of hormones, creating war zones

full of drugs and adolescent moans

followed by unfiltered noise and false salvation 

so she further indulged in self-mutilation 

The vessel of hope glimmered deep within her mind 

b******s showed up pretending to be kind 

like her father they had no moral incline 

just set out to reel in a troubled fish and dine 

She wrote an escape within the tear covered pages 

of happier times and beautiful places 

in her own little world, she controlled the pieces 

masked thoughts she dreams of the moment her torment ceases

Author's Note

Got this idea after a girl with the pen name masked thoughts reviewed a poem of mine. I was quite fascinated by her name. The story behind the poem is inspired from a friend I know who has suffered such an ordeal and lost someone so dear and close to her. Poetry helps her express her pain and suffering and helps her move on. Much Love to her and she is the strongest person I know.

Superb rhyming does wonders in compounding the message of a poem and you do it so well Keegan.

I could have identified with the protagonist once upon a time but now I've learnt to be a fortress carved upon a rock, wherein nothing can distrurb me.

A deep and moving write.

Sad and Haunting Very Heart Wrenching also. I have never tried cutting myself
but I have deal with a Alcoholic father and been through
ups and downs with him he was a good dad then just Spiraled
down hill with the drinking.


And I've Lost close Family members long ago
to Suicide life can be hard when we loose ones
close and dear to us.


She sounds like an amazing friend
and a very Brave soul.

growing up and knowing loss is really hard...innocence lost...
she is troubled by life early on...and it doesn't stop....such tragedy to have everything bad thrown at you in life from day one.
tragic, but well written piece, the metaphor of the fishing really works...and is carried throughout the poem nicely.
