Cobber's Tale

Cobber's Tale

A Poem by Keith
"

My loyal mate.

"

I have a dog named Cobber,

A faithful Collie cross.

There is much that he can teach

About life, love and loss.

He cares not for your status,

As a have, or have not.

He doesn't care to judge you

So content, with his lot.

If his water bowl is dry

Or has to wait for food.

He will never sulk or moan,

Nor in a nasty mood.

He will be extra happy

When it finally comes.

He'll appreciate it more

And lick up all the crumbs.

A cancer on his tail,

The vet gave it the chop.

But still he woke up happy

After his little op.

So pleased to see me afterwards

To his feet with a jump

I said "Mate how ya doing?"

He wagged his bandaged stump.

Thank you Carol I always appreciate your reviews.
I always say if you put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour then let them out see which one is glad to see you .

If only more people would be like Cobber. I grew up with dogs so I know what it is like to have such a friend. You words wont seen that true to those who have not been around dogs that much. But for those of us that have we know how truer your words about Cobber are. On behalf of all dog lovers... we thank you.
P.S. Give Cobber a hug for me.

Keith writes refreshing narrative poetry with thoughtful, considered content, transportable but never banal. Excellent.
